(Rudolph Red Vinyl)

Translucent Rudolph Red Vinyl LP

Rudolph Red is the translucent red pressing of Worst Christmas Ever! that Asthmatic Kitty Records made available to major and independent retailers alike. The label split the other colorways by shop: Candy Cane in its own store, Christmas Explosion at Rough Trade, Mistletoe Split at Barnes & Noble and Peppermint Swirl at Dinked stores. All sixteen tracks sit on one LP.

The record gathers fifteen songs chosen from more than one hundred Christmas recordings on the box sets Songs For Christmas and Silver & Gold, and adds "On This Christmas (It Only Gets Better)," Sufjan Stevens' first new Christmas song in nearly fifteen years. The label describes it as a song built around apology and asking forgiveness: "On this Christmas, I ask forgiveness for all the funny things I've said and done," he sings.

The project began in 2001, when Stevens set out to make a Christmas gift for friends and family and came away with a seven-song recording he called Noel, Vol. 1. He made another every few years in the same way, in one week each December, usually at home, with whoever was around, including Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National, Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire, Cat Martino, Gabriel Kahane and members of Danielson. Asthmatic Kitty collected the first five volumes as Songs For Christmas in 2006 and the next five as Silver & Gold in 2012. This is the first time the songs have been compiled onto a single record. Among them, "Justice Delivers Its Gift" is, in the label's words, his ecclesiastical take on the Burl Ives song "Silver & Gold." Speaking to Vulture in 2022, Stevens said, "There are no rules and regulations when it comes to Christmas culture."

Tracklist

Silent Night

Put The Lights On The Tree

Holly Jolly Christmas

Christmas In The Room

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear (Christmas Infinity Voyage Version)

Sister Winter

Joy To The World

On This Christmas (It Only Gets Better)

Angels We Have Heard On High (Christmas Infinity Voyage Version)

Only At Christmas Time

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear (Christmas Unicorn Version)

That Was The Worst Christmas Ever!

Sleigh Ride

Justice Delivers Its Gift

Auld Lang Syne

Maoz Tzur (Rock Of Ages)

Complete the Collection (6)

Seven Swans

The Age of Adz

Carrie & Lowell

Tonya Harding

Convocations

Worst Christmas Ever!
