Asthmatic Kitty Records issued it on May 30, 2025, as a double LP in a hard card slipcase with a gatefold sleeve. The first disc holds the original album. The second adds seven recordings that had never been released. Inside are a 40-page art book that Sufjan Stevens designed and a new essay he wrote about the record.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe edition has a different cover from the 2015 original. It shows the whole Polaroid the first sleeve was cropped from, pulled back far enough to reveal the caption written under it in a child's hand: \"Carrie \u0026amp; Lowell.\" The label says Stevens' sister Djamilah wrote it, and that is where the album got its name. The book pairs old family photographs from four generations with drawings and with landscape pictures Stevens took on a trip across the western U.S.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSide C opens with demos of \"Death With Dignity,\" \"Should Have Known Better,\" \"Eugene\" and \"The Only Thing,\" then closes on the first demo of \"Mystery of Love.\" That song came out of the album sessions and was later reworked for Luca Guadagnino's \u003cem\u003eCall Me by Your Name\u003c\/em\u003e. The video above is the demo. Side D holds two long outtakes, \"Wallowa Lake Monster\" and a version of \"Fourth of July\" that runs close to fourteen minutes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eCarrie \u0026amp; Lowell\u003c\/em\u003e first came out on March 31, 2015, as Stevens' seventh studio album. He wrote it after his mother, Carrie, died in 2012, and the title also names his stepfather, Lowell Brams, who helped him start Asthmatic Kitty. Stevens produced it with Thomas Bartlett, recording in Brooklyn and Manhattan, at studios in Portland, Norman and Eau Claire, and on a phone in a Klamath Falls hotel room.
