Earle had arrived in Nashville in 1974 as a nineteen-year-old from San Antonio and soon played bass in Clark's band. In the fall of 2018 he and The Dukes recorded these sixteen Clark songs at House of Blues studio in Nashville in six days, aiming for a live sound. New West released the album on March 29, 2019, about a decade after Earle's Townes Van Zandt tribute, TOWNES.

The Dukes here are Eleanor Whitmore on fiddle and mandolin, Chris Masterson on guitar, Kelley Looney on bass and Brad Pemberton on drums. Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell join the closing "Old Friends," which carries additional recording from Arlyn Studios in Austin. Tony Fitzpatrick made the front cover and Terry Allen the back.

Six of the songs come from Clark's 1975 debut, Old No. 1, on which Earle sang. Americana UK gave the album 8 out of 10.

Tracklist

Side A

Dublin Blues

L.A.
