Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios worked from the original half-inch four-track quadraphonic master tape, making a new stereo mix sent directly to the cutter head so the signal path stays analogue end to end. Philips engineers in the 1970s would have folded the four channels down the same way, but their downmix produced a two-track stereo copy for mastering; here the lacquer is cut from a live mix off the quadraphonic master.
