The jacket reproduces the green front and blue back of the 1986 original, art-directed and designed by Janet Perr with cover photography by Caroline Greyshock, and the disc labels keep the Profile logo the record first appeared under. Lacquers were cut at Nashville Record Productions, whose stamp sits in the runout of both sides. A hype sticker on the shrink names the anniversary and two of the album's singles.

Run-D.M.C. made their third album at Chung King House Of Metal in Manhattan, with further work at Shakedown Sound, Sound Track Recording and Magic Ventures, over about three months after they came off the road in late 1985. Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons took the production credit, Steve Ett engineered at Chung King, and Jason Mizell played the keyboards and percussion.

It reached number three on the Billboard 200 and became the first hip-hop album to top Billboard's Top Black Albums chart. The RIAA certified it Platinum on July 15, 1986 and three-times Platinum on April 24, 1987, the first rap record to reach either mark. Four singles came off it: "My Adidas," "Walk This Way," "You Be Illin'" and "It's Tricky." "Walk This Way," rebuilt from Aerosmith's 1975 song with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry playing on the session, was the first record by a hip-hop act to reach the top five of the Billboard Hot 100.

The album brought Run-D.M.C. a Grammy nomination in 1987, the first for any hip-hop act, and the Library of Congress added it to the National Recording Registry in 2017. Rolling Stone placed it at 123 on its 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time and at 209 in the 2020 revision.

Tracklist

Side One

Peter Piper

It's Tricky

My Adidas

Walk This Way

Is It Live

Perfection

Side Two

Hit It Run

Raising Hell

You Be Illin'

Dumb Girl

Son Of Byford

Proud To Be Black

UPC: 199584555812
Label: Legacy Recordings
Release Date: 8.14.26
Format: Vinyl
