Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero produced it themselves at NK Sound Tokyo. Dave Sardy, who has mixed for the duo before and for The Who, Oasis and Red Hot Chili Peppers, mixed the album, and Stephen Marcussen mastered it. The drawings in the artwork are the duo's own.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJapanese jazz pianist Hiromi plays on \"Akatsuki,\" and former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman on the closing \"Simurgh.\" Cellist Hiyori Okuda and guitarist and composer Yukihiro Atsumi also appear. \"We've always felt drawn to Japan because of the art and aesthetics and attention to beauty,\" Quintero has said. \"There's also something about being there that invites you to look inward.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first single, \"Monster,\" draws on the psychological themes of Naoki Urasawa's manga series of the same name. Urasawa, who had followed the duo since first seeing videos of their live shows, reached them through their Japanese promoter, met them in Tokyo and drew original artwork for the song's video.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSánchez and Quintero met in Mexico City, where they played in the metal band Tierra Ácida before moving to Dublin in 1999.
