They come in a gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeves. A turquoise hype sticker on the shrinkwrap marks it "LTD Turquoise 2LP" and gives the catalog number INFECT648ELP. The discs were manufactured in Poland. The runout etchings on all four sides point to a half-speed cut at Abbey Road.

The album is Ashcroft's sixth studio record. It has twelve newly recorded versions of songs from his solo catalog and his years fronting the Verve, mostly from 1997's Urban Hymns. Ashcroft produced it with longtime collaborator Chris Potter, who had sat out the previous album, Natural Rebel. It debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart, his highest placing since Keys to the World in 2006.

His regular live band plays alongside Chuck Leavell on piano. Wil Malone wrote the string arrangements, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, Roddy Bloomfield led the brass section, and Steve Wyreman added acoustic guitar and backing vocals. Liam Gallagher shares lead vocals on "C'mon People (We're Making It Now)," a single from Ashcroft's 2000 solo debut, Alone With Everybody. According to the album's press material, Ashcroft first played the song to Gallagher on a piano in Majorca in 1998. "This Thing Called Life" first appeared on the 2010 debut by his side project RPA & The United Nations of Sound and has been completely reworked here. The new recording of "Sonnet" was later used in the 2024 John Lewis & Partners Christmas advertisement.

Tracklist

Side A

Bittersweet Symphony

A Song for the Lovers

Sonnet

Side B

C'mon People (We're Making It Now) (feat.
