They survived on a single one-of-one acetate kept by García's son, the DJ and broadcaster Bobbito García, a 2023 inductee to the NAB Radio Hall of Fame. Neither song had been released before this 7-inch, which Bobbito issues on his own label, Bobbito 45\/7.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eRay García was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to New York City in 1953, where he learned the vibraphone. The label's notes record that his earliest band opened for Tito Puente at the Palladium in the late 1950s, and that Puente afterward gave García his own set of vibes. García died in 1997, and the label notes that the other members of the band have also since died.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA charanga is an Afro-Cuban dance ensemble built around flute, violin, piano and timbales. Bobbito 45\/7's notes point out that very few charangas were led by a vibraphonist, which set García's group apart in its era.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBoth recordings were restored by BreakBeat Lou Flores, credited on the center label. Side A runs 4:49 at 45 RPM. The record is pressed on opaque white vinyl, carries purple Bobbito 45\/7 labels with catalog number B45\/7-2, and ships in a plain paper sleeve.
