It was mastered at Capitol Mastering, and both runouts are etched with the catalog number and a MASTERED BY CAPITOL credit. The jacket reproduces the original stereo sleeve: the Capitol Full Dimensional Stereo banner across the top, the SW 1967 catalog number and the "File Under: Cole - Christmas, Male Vocal" line in the upper margin, and the program printed across the cover photograph beneath the line Music Conducted by Ralph Carmichael. Copies shipped with a sticker on the shrink naming the title track.

Cole's Christmas album exists in two running orders. It first appeared as The Magic of Christmas. Capitol later reissued it retitled The Christmas Song, adding the title song at the head of side one and dropping "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen." This pressing carries that retitled sequence — fourteen tracks, seven to a side — rather than the original 1960 order.

Mel Tormé and Robert Wells wrote "The Christmas Song," and Cole first recorded it in 1946; a further recording was made for the 1961 album The Nat King Cole Story. The remainder of the program is carols and hymns, among them "Caroling, Caroling" by Alfred Burt and Wihla Hutson and "A Cradle in Bethlehem" by Alfred Bryan and Larry Stock. Those two are the only titles that carry no adaptation credit to Cole and Edith Bergdahl on the original LP label.

Tracklist

Side One

The Christmas Song

Deck the Hall

Adeste Fideles

O Tannenbaum

O, Little Town of Bethlehem

I Saw Three Ships

O Holy Night

Side Two

Hark, The Herald Angels Sing

A Cradle in Bethlehem

Away in a Manger

Joy to the World

The First Noel

Caroling, Caroling

Silent Night

Complete the Collection (2)

After Midnight: The Complete Sessions

The Christmas Song (this release)

UPC: 602537945580
Label: Capitol
Release Date: 9.30.14
Format: Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0718/8801/1422/files/Nat-King-Cole-The-Christmas-Songs-1LP-Vinyl.png?v=1792589514
