The cover art is by Mike Del Mundo, with sketches by Sanford Greene, and the front is laid out like a first issue: a Marvel and Mass Appeal corner box, issue number 1 and a Variant Edition banner. Catalog number MSAP186MAR.

The gatefold opens to character design sheets for the two leads, Nas drawn as "Nasir, Multiverse Disciple" and Premier as "Premo," noted as a tech expert. The inner sleeve is a full page of black-and-white comic panels starring all seven acts in the series. The two discs are pressed on colored vinyl, with center labels marked Exclusive Limited Edition Vinyl, and a bonus sticker pack is included.

The spine is numbered 07. Light-Years was the seventh and last album in Mass Appeal's Legend Has It... series, which in 2025 also brought new records from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, Big L and Slick Rick.

Nas first talked about a full album with Premier in a 2006 interview with Scratch, years after Premier produced "N.Y. State of Mind," "Memory Lane" and "Represent" on Illmatic. The record came out in December 2025. Premier produced every track, and the sessions ran from 2006 to 2025 in New York rooms including Kaufman Astoria Studios and the Hit Factory.

There are only two guests: the Steve Miller Band, whose "Fly Like an Eagle" is sampled on "It's Time," and AZ, Nas's former partner in the Firm, on "My Story Your Story." The closing "3rd Childhood" samples "2nd Childhood," a song written by Nas and Premier. Metacritic gives the album a weighted score of 71 from five critic reviews, which it rates as generally favorable. The video above is for "GiT Ready." It was directed by Jean-Charles Charavin and filmed in New York.

Tracklist

Disc 1, Side A

My Life Is Real

GiT Ready

NY State Of Mind Pt. 3

Welcome To The Underground

Disc 1, Side B

Madman

Pause Tapes

Writers

Sons (Young Kings)

Disc 2, Side C

It's Time (feat.
