Kevin Shields led sessions that ran from February 1989 to September 1991, working with glide guitar technique, non-standard tunings, digital sampling and meticulous production methods, and the band recorded at nineteen different studios. Alan Moulder was the one engineer Shields trusted with tasks such as miking the amplifiers; he had earlier mixed \"Soon,\" first heard on the \u003cem\u003eGlider\u003c\/em\u003e EP, which closes the album. Colm Ó Cíosóig produced \"Touched,\" the only track Shields did not.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCreation Records released \u003cem\u003eLoveless\u003c\/em\u003e in the United Kingdom on November 4, 1991, and Sire released it in the United States. It reached number 24 on the UK Albums Chart and did not chart in the US. It was the band's last full-length album until \u003cem\u003em b v\u003c\/em\u003e in 2013, and critics have widely cited it as a landmark of shoegaze and as one of the greatest albums of all time.
