The first record is the original album, remastered for the anniversary and cut at half speed from the original tapes. The second is a new remix and remaster that longtime Motörhead producer Cameron Webb built from the original multitracks. The third gathers studio rehearsals and outtakes from 1985 with the complete session the band recorded for BBC Radio 1's Friday Rock Show, dated August 16, 1986. The book tells the story of the album in an essay by Neil Perry, illustrated with rare photographs and memorabilia.

Orgasmatron was first released on July 21, 1986, the band's first album for GWR. It was the first Motörhead studio album by the four-piece of Lemmy, Phil Campbell, Würzel and Pete Gill, and the only full studio album Gill played on. The band recorded it in eleven days at Master Rock Studios in London, with Bill Laswell producing and Jason Corsaro engineering. The working title was "Ridin' with the Driver," and Joe Petagno's train-themed Snaggletooth cover was too far along to change by the time the title became Orgasmatron.

The production has long divided the band. Lemmy wrote in his autobiography that "Orgasmatron was mud," and Phil Campbell has said, "I think the production let us down on Orgasmatron." Blabbermouth's report on this edition notes that both men disliked the original mix. "Deaf Forever" was released as a single in June 1986, the album reached number 21 on the UK chart and number 157 on the Billboard 200, and Robert Christgau graded it A-minus. The video above is the official lyric video for Webb's remix of the title track.

Tracklist

LP 1 (40th Anniversary Master) — Side A

Deaf Forever

Nothing Up My Sleeve

Ain't My Crime

Claw

Mean Machine

LP 1 (40th Anniversary Master) — Side B

Built For Speed

Ridin' With The Driver

Doctor Rock

Orgasmatron

LP 2 (Cameron Webb 40th Anniversary Remix) — Side A

Deaf Forever

Nothing Up My Sleeve

Ain't My Crime

Claw

Mean Machine

LP 2 (Cameron Webb 40th Anniversary Remix) — Side B

Built For Speed

Ridin' With The Driver

Doctor Rock

Orgasmatron

LP 3 (Rehearsals, Outtakes and Sessions) — Side A

Orgasmatron & On The Road (Studio Rehearsal, 1985)

Nothing Up My Sleeve (Studio Outtake, 1985)

Doctor Rock & Ridin' With The Driver (Studio Rehearsal, 1985)

LP 3 (Rehearsals, Outtakes and Sessions) — Side B

Claw (Alternate Version)

Mean Machine (Studio Outtake, 1985)

Killed By Death (BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show)

Orgasmatron (BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show)

Doctor Rock (BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show)

Deaf Forever (BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show)

Orgasmatron (Spoken Word) (BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show)

Complete the Collection (6)

On Parole

Orgasmatron (this release)

Sacrifice

Overnight Sensation

Snake Bite Love

Live at Brixton '87

UPC: 4099964266801
Label: Sanctuary Records
Release Date: 11.6.26
Format: Vinyl
