It was recorded at Steve Lawson Productions in Seattle, with Mark Dodson producing, engineering and mixing, Terry Date assisting as engineer, and George Marino mastering at Sterling Sound in New York.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDavid Wayne sang, Kurdt Vanderhoof and Craig Wells played guitar, Duke Erickson played bass and Kirk Arrington played drums. It was the last studio album by that lineup. Wayne was out of the band by late 1987, and Mike Howe took over vocals on Blessing in Disguise in 1989.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMetal Church dedicated the record to Cliff Burton of Metallica, whose death came nine days before its release. It entered the Billboard 200 on January 24, 1987, peaked at No. 92 and stayed on the chart for 23 weeks. \"Watch the Children Pray\" was released with a music video in 1986, and Rock Hard placed the album at No. 389 in its 2005 book The 500 Greatest Rock \u0026amp; Metal Albums of All Time.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eVanderhoof formed Metal Church in San Francisco in 1980 and moved the band to Aberdeen, Washington, the following year.
