This was his debut, built entirely from samples of Billie Holiday recordings, with each track shaped around a chapter of her working life. He opens his note on the record plainly: \"Billie Holiday is my muse.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe method is the one he has worked in since: pre-1950s jazz, soul and radio recordings run through an MPC, with the surface noise of the source left audible rather than cleaned away.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHassaan Mackey, yU and Kelsey Lu appear on \"Lost Souls\" — Lu several years before her own records for Columbia.
