After a year opening for U2 on the Vertigo Tour, West set out to write songs built for stadiums, layering synthesizers over his production and drawing on house music, the sound of his Chicago hometown, alongside indie and arena rock. Chris Martin of Coldplay sings on \"Homecoming,\" a reworking of a demo West first recorded in 2001 as \"Home (Windy).\" Jon Brion plays keyboards on \"I Wonder,\" and DJ Toomp is among the producers working alongside West.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album shared its street date with 50 Cent's Curtis and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with more than 957,000 copies sold in its first week. \"Stronger\" topped the Billboard Hot 100, the RIAA has certified the album eight times platinum, and it won West his third Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.
