It is one of two vinyl versions issued for Record Store Day's Black Friday event on November 26, 2021, and those two versions were the first time the album had been pressed to vinyl. The run was limited to 2,500 copies worldwide as a one-time pressing on red and white splatter vinyl. It comes with an obi strip and a printed inner sleeve, and the labels reproduce the original label art. The Candy Cane cover shows Kaukonen in a red jacket. The companion Christmas Tree Edition puts him in green and is pressed on green vinyl.

Culture Factory USA made the reissue for Fur Peace Ranch Records, Kaukonen's own label. The runouts carry hand-etched JORMACHRISTMAS A and B matrices beside laser-etched MPO stamps.

Relix Records first released Christmas in July 1996. It is the only themed album Kaukonen has recorded, and it steps away from the Rev. Gary Davis repertoire that runs through his solo work. The record mixes new holiday songs with hymns such as "Silent Night." It was recorded at the Fur Peace Ranch in Meigs County, Ohio, and produced by Kaukonen with Michael Falzarano. Fred Bogert also contributed. Vanessa Kaukonen sings on the album and co-wrote one of its songs. It is also the only album on which Kaukonen plays keyboards. The Fur Peace Ranch store remembers the writing of "Christmas Rule" with Falzarano and Vanessa Kaukonen as a session of steady laughter. In his catalog, Christmas sits between The Land of Heroes (1995) and Too Many Years (1998).

Tracklist

Side A

Downhill Sleigh Ride

Christmas Rule

What Child Is This?

Christmas Blues

Journey of the Three Wise Men

Side B

Baby Boy

You're Still Standing

Silent Night

Holiday Marmalade

Holiday Segue

UPC: 819514012214
Label: Fur Peace Ranch Records
Release Date: 11.26.21
Format: Vinyl LP
