Blackheart Records issued it with Seeker Music under catalog number SEEKR140V as the wide-release pressing of the anniversary, while a Barnes & Noble edition went out separately on transparent red vinyl with alternate cover art.

The album was Joan Jett's second and her first with the Blackhearts. It was recorded on Long Island between June and September 1981, with Kenny Laguna, Ritchie Cordell and Glen Kolotkin producing, and Ricky Byrd took over lead guitar from Eric Ambel early in the sessions. Boardwalk Records released it that November as the follow-up to Bad Reputation. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum in the US.

The title track began as a 1975 single by the English band Arrows, written by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker; Jett saw them play it on television in 1976. Her recording held No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks in 1982 and entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2016. A cover of the Tommy James and the Shondells hit "Crimson and Clover" gave the album a second Hot 100 top ten single.

Side B carries both "Little Drummer Boy" and "Oh Woe Is Me." Mix magazine's account of the sessions says the first copies of the LP included the former, which was replaced by the latter after Christmas 1981. The side closes on a live recording of "You Don't Know What You've Got," originally heard as a B-side.

The official video above was shot in a bar on Manhattan's Upper East Side and drew heavy play on the young MTV network. It was filmed in color and converted to black and white because Jett disliked the look of her red leather jumpsuit. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tracklist

Side A

I Love Rock 'N Roll

(I'm Gonna) Run Away

Love Is Pain

Nag

Crimson and Clover

Victim of Circumstance

Side B

Bits and Pieces

Be Straight

You're Too Possessive

Little Drummer Boy

Oh Woe Is Me

You Don't Know What You've Got (Live B-side)

UPC: 823375091295
Label: Blackheart Records
Release Date: 8.28.26
Format: Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0718/8801/1422/files/4522712-3621960_7b2481d3-740b-4c11-97ea-e834d9bb743f.jpg?v=1790041232
