The 1993 album now runs across two black LPs. The fourth side holds bonus material from the original sessions: alternate takes of "Jenny Jenkins" and "Teddy Bear's Picnic," plus previously unissued takes of "When First Unto This Country" and "Shenandoah."

Grisman, known to fans as Dawg, did the new high-definition mastering, and Chris Muth cut the vinyl at Taloowa Mastering. Marc Allan and Kevin Monty produced the reissue. It comes out on Round Records, catalog number JGFRR1066, under an exclusive license from Acoustic Disc to the Jerry Garcia Family.

Garcia (acoustic guitar, vocals) and David Grisman (mandolin, vocals) recorded the album at Dawg Studios in mid-1993. David Dennison engineered and Grisman produced. It was their second album as a duo, after the self-titled record of 1991, and it first came out on Grisman's Acoustic Disc label. Many of the songs are traditional children's and folk tunes the two had learned in the early 1960s. To remember the words, they worked from the Old-Time String Band Songbook, edited by John Cohen and Mike Seeger. The cover drawing is Garcia's own.

Grisman's original liner notes called the record "our answer to 'Barney.'" The American Library Association named it a Notable Children's Recording. It was also the last album Garcia released in his lifetime.

Tracklist

Side A

Jenny Jenkins

Freight Train

A Horse Named Bill

Three Men Went A-Hunting

Side B

When First Unto This Country

Arkansas Traveler

Hopalong Peter

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Side C

There Ain't No Bugs On Me

The Miller's Will

Hot Corn, Cold Corn

A Shenandoah Lullaby

Side D

Jenny Jenkins (Alternate Take)

When First Unto This Country (Previously Unissued Alternate Take)

Teddy Bear's Picnic (Alternate Take)

Shenandoah (Previously Unissued Take)

UPC: 880882676711
Label: Round Records
Release Date: 11.21.25
Format: Vinyl
