Jane Remover wrote, produced and performed every part and mixed and mastered the record, working in a childhood bedroom in New Jersey over six to seven months that began midway through the last year of high school and ended the summer before college. The guitar parts were recorded on an acoustic guitar, an instrument Jane Remover had not played before, one string at a time and then layered into chords, and a bitcrusher gave the record its fuzzy, Nintendo DS-like sound.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThree singles came first: \"How to Lie\" in June 2021, \"Pretender\" in August and \"Search Party\" in October. Pitchfork rated the album 8.0 and placed it 47th among the best albums of 2021, and Paste included it among the year's best debut albums.
