The band wrote, recorded and mastered Death Spells itself, with artwork by Maria Nemm, and released it on September 14, 2018. Triple Crown Records signed the band in March 2019 and reissued the album, announcing it with an official video for "Dark Stone."

Wax Bodega's notes cite Stereogum calling the music "all so beautiful" and Heavy Blog Is Heavy naming it "a landmark," and record that Thrice and Deafheaven each invited the band on tour and that Lamb of God's Randy Blythe praised the band.
