It is one LP in a gatefold jacket, with a printed inner sleeve that carries the lyrics and credits. "Be kind," the opening line of the title track, is set in large type across that inner sleeve. The eleven songs of the standard album run six on side A and five on side B. The deluxe edition's bonus disc of covers and standalone singles came out on CD and is not on this record.

The catalog number is INFECT644LP. The record came out on June 11, 2021, on Stunvolume, the band's own label, with Infectious Music. Copies were pressed in Germany. The etched runouts read "Matt @ Metropolis" and "Completed in the year of Covid 2020." Elusive Disc's listing for this pressing cites The Absolute Sound's September 2021 issue, which gave it 4.5 out of 5 for both music and sonics.

Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig began shaping the songs at jam sessions in Palm Springs in 2018. They finished the record in Los Angeles, and it was completed in September 2020 after COVID-19 restrictions cut the last sessions short. Garbage produced the album themselves with Billy Bush, their engineer and mixer of many years, and Heba Kadry mastered it. Eric Avery, Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Daniel Shulman, who had all played on earlier Garbage albums, recorded bass parts.

The title comes from the anarchist slogan "no gods, no masters." Manson has tied the record to the number seven, describing its content in terms of "the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins." The cover angel is a photograph Manson took in Edinburgh's Dean Cemetery of a statue of two sister angels. Ryan Corey, the band's graphic artist, edited one of the two out. Three singles came before the album: "The Men Who Rule the World," the title track and "Wolves." Javi Mi Amor directed the video for the opener.

Tracklist

Side A

The Men Who Rule the World

The Creeps

Uncomfortably Me

Wolves

Anonymous XXX

Waiting for God

Side B

Godhead

A Woman Destroyed

Flipping the Bird

No Gods No Masters

This City Will Kill You

UPC: 4050538662887
Label: Infectious Music
Release Date: 6.11.21
Format: Vinyl
