Audiences found her through the indie band Florist in the early 2010s; she began issuing experimental composition under her own name in 2017, with Water Memory \/ Mount Vision, then Hill, Flower, Fog in 2020 and Cloud Time in 2025. Her mother taught her piano as a child, and RVNG Intl. note that she later came to the guitar by experiment, working from \"melodic impact and instinctual sonic gestures rather than theory and scales.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe album takes its name and its imagery from the cyanotype. Around 2019, returning to film photography, Sprague became absorbed in the work of Anna Atkins, the botanist and photographer who documented flowers by that process. Atkins' images set off a narrative thread: a character on a distant planet called Cyano, once like Earth, destroyed by misunderstanding and pushed into what the label describes as \"a pseudo-mutuality that eschewed individuality for assimilated symbiosis.\" Across fourteen pieces the character reintroduces autonomous desire and authentic expression to that world. The sleeve carries a cyanotype-style image to match: chemical blue mottling around a pressed frond.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRVNG call the record \"a first offering, intentionally primitive and minimal, a static-y transmission from the place very far away where it all resides,\" with further Cyano composition already in ideation.
