The band recorded it at Red Dog Studios in Bournemouth in July 1996, with Rolf Startin and Mike Hurst producing alongside Jus Oborn, who sang and played lead guitar. Tim Bagshaw played bass and Mark Greening drums. Oborn has said the record was a reaction to the band's self-titled debut, which he felt was not as heavy as the group wanted to sound.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe songs draw on 1970s horror films, biker movies and the writing of H. P. Lovecraft, and three of them are about leaving Earth ahead of an environmental collapse. \"Return Trip\" carries a sample from \u003cem\u003eCannibal Ferox\u003c\/em\u003e, while \"Ivixor B\/Phase Inducer\" and the closing \"Solarian 13\" are instrumentals. Lee Dorrian, who runs Rise Above, has described the songs as breaking the mold of traditional doom metal with an unpolished, chaotic approach.
