Rhino pressed it at 180 grams and, according to the label's announcement, sent it to brick-and-mortar record shops, while a yellow-vinyl version of the same reissue was sold only through Rhino's own webstore. Crocodiles was one of four early Bunnymen albums in the campaign, alongside Heaven Up Here, Porcupine and Ocean Rain.

The record is a remastered single LP that carries the original Korova catalog number, KODE 1, on its labels. It follows the ten-track UK running order, five songs a side. "Do It Clean" and "Read It in Books" are not here: Warner's managing director Rob Dickins mistakenly believed both contained obscenities, so they were left off the 1980 UK LP and appeared only on the American edition issued by Sire that December.

By the time of the sessions, drummer Pete de Freitas had replaced the drum machine the trio of Ian McCulloch, Will Sergeant and Les Pattinson started out with. Most of the album was recorded at Rockfield Studios near Monmouth in about three weeks, produced by the band's manager Bill Drummond with David Balfe, who also played keyboards; Hugh Jones engineered. Ian Broudie produced "Rescue" and "Pride" separately at Eden Studios in London. "Pictures on My Wall", the band's first single on Zoo Records in 1979, was re-recorded for the album with de Freitas on drums, and "Rescue" became their first chart entry, reaching number 62 on the UK Singles Chart.

Korova first issued Crocodiles on 18 July 1980. It reached number 17 on the UK Albums Chart, and the British Phonographic Industry certified it gold in December 1984. Reviewing it for NME that year, Chris Salewicz called it "probably the best album this year by a British band." The cover is one of a series of night photographs Brian Griffin took in woods near Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire; the band had wanted burning stakes in the pictures and settled on moody lighting instead.

Tracklist

Side A

Going Up

Stars Are Stars

Pride

Monkeys

Crocodiles

Side B

Rescue

Villiers Terrace

Pictures on My Wall

All That Jazz

Happy Death Men

UPC: 190295360894
Label: Rhino
Release Date: 10.15.21
Format: Vinyl
