Chris Bellman cut the lacquers at Bernie Grundman Mastering, Dorin Sauerbier handled the One-Step plating at Record Technology, Inc., and RTI pressed the two discs on Neotech VR900-D2 180-gram vinyl. GPA Global printed the packaging. In the One-Step process the stamper is made directly from the lacquer, without the extra metal generations of conventional plating.

Interscope describes it as a one-time pressing limited to 4,000 numbered copies. The records sit in a heavyweight tip-on double-pocket gatefold jacket, and the jacket slides into a slipcase designed for the series. The Chronic was issued in the same series earlier.

2001 came out on November 16, 1999 through Aftermath and Interscope. Dre and Mel-Man produced every track but "The Message," which Lord Finesse produced, and the sessions ran through 1998 and 1999 at studios including Record One, Larrabee and A&M. Scott Storch played keyboards and Mike Elizondo played bass, and the guest list includes Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Xzibit, Nate Dogg, Kurupt, Mary J. Blige and Devin the Dude.

The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2, selling 516,000 copies in its first week, and the RIAA certified it six times Platinum in November 2000. "Still D.R.E." (the video above), "Forgot About Dre" and "The Next Episode" were the singles; "The Next Episode" reached No. 3 in the UK, and "Forgot About Dre" won the Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 2001.

Tracklist

LP 1, Side A

Lolo (Intro) (feat.
