The single LP keeps the original six-track running order, three pieces a side.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDon Pullen first came to wider notice in Charles Mingus's group in the early 1970s and later co-led a quartet with saxophonist George Adams that signed to Blue Note in 1986. After two Pullen\/Adams albums, \u003cem\u003eBreakthrough\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003cem\u003eSong Everlasting\u003c\/em\u003e, he stepped out on his own in a trio. He recorded \u003cem\u003eNew Beginnings\u003c\/em\u003e at A\u0026amp;R Studios in New York on December 16, 1988, with Gary Peacock on bass and Tony Williams on drums, and Michael Cuscuna producing. Blue Note released it in 1989 as B1-91785.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll six compositions are Pullen's. Blue Note's notes set the avant-garde flourishes of \"Reap the Whirlwind\" against the groove- and swing-based \"Jana's Delight\" and the title track.
