Mastering for the reissue is credited to Elliott Federman, the ten songs are split five to a side, and a digital download is included.

Jolene was Parton's thirteenth solo studio album, released by RCA Victor on February 4, 1974. Bob Ferguson produced it from sessions at RCA Studio B in Nashville that ran from January 1972 to December 1973, with Pete Drake on pedal steel, Hargus "Pig" Robbins on piano, Buck Trent on banjo, Johnny Gimble on fiddle and the Nashville Edition on background vocals.

The title track was issued as a single in October 1973 and became Parton's second solo number-one country single, crossing over as a moderate pop hit and also doing well in the United Kingdom. The album arrived as she was leaving Porter Wagoner's weekly television show and road show after seven years to work as a solo artist. "I Will Always Love You," a song about the end of that partnership, followed as the second single and also went to number one on the country chart.

Most of the writing is Parton's own. "Lonely Comin' Down" is a Wagoner song that first appeared on her 1972 tribute album My Favorite Songwriter, Porter Wagoner, and "Early Morning Breeze" is a new recording of a song from 1971's Coat of Many Colors. Billboard's review at the time called "Lonely Comin' Down" an exceptional ballad.

Tracklist

Side A

Jolene

When Someone Wants To Leave

River Of Happiness

Early Morning Breeze

Highlight Of My Life

Side B

I Will Always Love You

Randy

Living On Memories Of You

Lonely Comin' Down

It Must Be You

UPC: 190759589618
Label: Sony Legacy
Release Date: 8.23.19
Format: Vinyl
