The mixtape first came out digitally on August 30, 2024, and the CD arrived after it had won Best Rap Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, making Doechii the third woman to take that category. The disc keeps the original 19-song sequence; "Anxiety," the 2025 single later added to the digital edition, is not on it.

The songs grew out of Swamp Sessions, a series Doechii began posting on social media on July 12, 2024: short tracks, each written and recorded in about an hour and released with its own video. "Nissan Altima" was the third installment and became the lead single; "Boom Bap," the sixth and final one, was the second, and "Denial Is a River" went to rhythmic radio as the third in January 2025. The "Nissan Altima" video above, directed by James Mackel, puts TDE labelmates Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad in the car with her.

Doechii signed to Top Dawg and Capitol in March 2022, the first female rapper on the TDE roster, and this was the label's first mixtape since Jay Rock's Black Friday in 2010. Production comes from Banser, Camper, Childish Major, Kal Banx, Devin Malik, Monte Booker and DaedaePivot of Pivot Gang, among others, and the rapper Kuntfetish is the lone guest, on "GTFO." Announcing the record, Doechii tied the title to the alligator's "death roll" and to attack survivors who fought back; the alligator is also Florida's state reptile, a nod to her home state and her "Swamp Princess" nickname.

The record peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200, her first US top-ten album, and reached the top ten in Germany and Scotland as well. Alongside the Best Rap Album win, "Nissan Altima" was nominated for Best Rap Performance and Doechii for Best New Artist. John Jay shot the cover, which shows her seated with an albino alligator named Coconut in a reference to Minnie Riperton's 1975 album Adventures in Paradise.

Tracklist

Stanka Pooh

Bullfrog

Boiled Peanuts

Denial Is a River

Catfish

Skipp

Hide N Seek

Bloom

Wait

Death Roll

Profit

Boom Bap

Nissan Altima

GTFO

Huh!

Slide

Fireflies

Beverly Hills

Alligator Bites Never Heal

UPC: 602475994206
Label: Top Dawg Ent.
Release Date: 4.18.25
Format: CD
