It was the band's first album after guitarist Vivian Campbell's departure in 1986. Craig Goldy took over on guitar, playing alongside keyboardist Claude Schnell, bassist Jimmy Bain and drummer Vinny Appice, and Ronnie James Dio produced the sessions at the Village Recorder in Los Angeles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe singles were \"All the Fools Sailed Away\" and \"I Could Have Been a Dreamer,\" and the Mitchell Singing Boys sing on the first of them. Dream Evil was the last Dio album with Appice until Strange Highways in 1993, the last with Bain until Magica in 2000, and Schnell's final record with the band.
