Matthew Logan Vasquez (vocals), Kelly Winrich (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Will McLaren (guitar), Jon Jameson (bass) and Brandon Young (drums) had not made a record together since 2014. New West frames that gap as a Saturn return arriving early: the planet takes roughly thirty years to come back around to where it sat at your birth, and this band managed it in a little under fifteen.

The album was tracked across four rooms, Sonic Ranch Studios, the band's own Cave East and Cave West, and The Duck in Nashville, with Jason Kingsland, Kelly Winrich and Matthew Logan Vasquez engineering. Tchad Blake mixed it at Full Mongrel Studios and John Baldwin mastered it. Nik Ewing handled the cover photograph, art direction and layout.

This is the standard New West edition, catalog number NW5409: a single 180-gram black LP, issued September 11, 2020.
