The label's own store pictures this tape in a white shell, with the band name, album title and catalog number printed straight onto the cassette, in a clear case with the original painted cover on the J-card. The program is the ten-track album as first released, without the live and demo bonus material that filled out the 2011 CD edition, and the audio comes from the remix Alan Douches of West West Side made for Relapse's reissue campaign.

The album was Death's fifth, first released in 1993 by Relativity Records, and Relapse's notes frame it as the follow-up to Human. For these sessions Chuck Schuldiner brought in drummer Gene Hoglan of Dark Angel and guitarist Andy LaRocque of King Diamond, and asked Steve Di Giorgio back on fretless bass. It is the only Death album LaRocque plays on. Scott Burns produced alongside Schuldiner and worked to keep Di Giorgio's bass audible, a common complaint about the mix on Human.

"The Philosopher" closes the record, and its music video drew significant airplay on MTV. Reviewing it for AllMusic, Steve Huey wrote that the album established Death as one of death metal's most creative and musically proficient bands as well as one of its founders.

Tracklist

Overactive Imagination

In Human Form

Jealousy

Trapped In A Corner

Nothing Is Everything

Mentally Blind

Individual Thought Patterns

Destiny

Out Of Touch

The Philosopher

UPC: 781676717149
Label: Relapse
Release Date: 10.1.21
Format: Cassette
