It went out as a "bricks & mortar" edition, the term the official David Bowie site uses for physical record shops and their online equivalents, and it was also stocked at the Bowie75 pop-up stores. The disc is colored to match the orange backdrop of the cover photograph, and the sides carry the 2017 remaster first prepared for the A New Career in a New Town (1977-1982) box set.

Low was Bowie's eleventh studio album, issued by RCA in the UK as PL 12030. Made with co-producer Tony Visconti and Brian Eno, it opened the run of three records later called the Berlin Trilogy, although most of it was recorded at the Château d'Hérouville in France before the sessions moved to Hansa Studios in West Berlin in October 1976. Its working title was New Music: Night and Day; the final name is a visual pun on the cover, a profile of Bowie taken from the film The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Carlos Alomar, George Murray and Dennis Davis returned from the Station to Station sessions, joined by Roy Young on piano and Ricky Gardiner on guitar, and Mary Hopkin, credited as Mary Visconti, sings backing vocals on "Sound and Vision." Side A is built mostly from short, direct songs, while side B is given over to longer, largely instrumental pieces. The drum sound came from Visconti feeding Davis's snare through an Eventide H910 Harmonizer, an early pitch-shifting unit.

RCA held the album back for three months before release. It reached No. 2 in the UK and No. 11 in the US, "Sound and Vision" became a UK top five single, and "Be My Wife" followed as the second single, its promotional video filmed in Paris in June 1977 under director Stanley Dorfman.

Tracklist

Side A

Speed of Life

Breaking Glass

What in the World

Sound and Vision

Always Crashing in the Same Car

Be My Wife

A New Career in a New Town

Side B

Warszawa

Art Decade

Weeping Wall

Subterraneans

*** Indie Exclusive ***
UPC: 190296726798
Label: Rhino / Parlophone
Release Date: 1.14.22
Format: Vinyl
