The disc is translucent pink and comes in an embossed sleeve. Inside is a code to download the album in high definition, and the spine reads "Remastered Edition." Mute released it on the same day as its vinyl reissue of Future Days.

Delay 1968 first came out on Spoon in 1981. It collects material made for Prepared to Meet Thy Pnoom, the debut Can recorded with original vocalist Malcolm Mooney and offered to several record companies, none of which took it. For years parts of it circulated on bootlegs under the title Unopened. The lineup is Mooney on vocals, Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitar, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards.

The release notes date the sessions to 1968 and 1969 at Schloss Nörvenich. "Uphill" was taped live in the castle's entrance hall during an open-doors day in August 1969. "Thief" is the exception: it was recorded that summer in the cellar of the Schauspielhaus Zürich, where the band had been invited to play a live score for Prometheus Bound. Radiohead later covered it in concert in the early 2000s. The Rolling Stone Album Guide notes that Karoli riffs harder here than he ever would again.

Tracklist

Side A

Butterfly

Pnoom

Nineteen Century Man

Thief

Side B

Man Named Joe

Uphill

Little Star of Bethlehem

UPC: 724596943762
Label: Mute U.s.
Release Date: 4.30.21
Format: Vinyl
