brian-eno-another-green-world-vinyl
Brian Eno - Another Green World (Vinyl)

Remastered Vinyl LP

This is the Astralwerks single-LP US edition of Another Green World. It carries catalog number 2557951639 on the spine and back, and the sleeve is marked "Made in U.S.A." The audio is remastered, and the runout grooves carry an Abbey Road etching alongside the matrix numbers. Some copies shipped with a clear "Made in Canada" sticker on the shrink. All fourteen tracks fit on one disc, seven to a side.

Another Green World was Eno's third solo studio album. Island Records first issued it in 1975, and the sleeve credits it simply to "Eno." He produced it with Rhett Davies at Island Studios in Notting Hill in July and August of that year. He started the sessions with nothing written, and when the first four days produced nothing he turned to his Oblique Strategies cards for direction. Only five of the fourteen pieces have vocals, which was a sharp break from the rock songs on his earlier records.

Guest players include Robert Fripp, Phil Collins, Percy Jones, Rod Melvin and John Cale on viola. Eno asked Fripp for a fast solo on "St. Elmo's Fire" that would sound like the charge in a Wimshurst high-voltage generator, and the sleeve credits it as "Wimshurst guitar." Eno plays every instrument himself on "In Dark Trees" and "The Big Ship." The cover art is a detail from Tom Phillips' painting After Raphael.

When it came out, the album's only chart placing was No. 24 in New Zealand. Its standing grew later. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 429 on its 2012 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time and No. 338 on the 2020 revision, and Pitchfork put it tenth on its list of the greatest albums of the 1970s. An excerpt of the title track became the theme music for the BBC Two documentary series Arena.

Tracklist

Side A

Sky Saw

Over Fire Island

St. Elmo's Fire

In Dark Trees

The Big Ship

I'll Come Running

Another Green World

Side B

Sombre Reptiles

Little Fishes

Golden Hours

Becalmed

Zawinul/Lava

Everything Merges with the Night

Spirits Drifting

UPC: 602557951639
Label: Astralwerks
Release Date: 1.26.18
Format: Vinyl
