The sides follow the Tuff Gong running order and open with "So Much Trouble in the World," the video above.

The Wailers recorded the album at Tuff Gong Recording Studio in Kingston early in 1979, co-producing with Alex Sadkin, and Island released it on October 2, 1979. Its working title was Black Survival, cut short so the theme would not be misread. Marley meant it as the first part of a trilogy, to be followed by Uprising and Confrontation.

"Africa Unite" is a call for Pan-African solidarity. "Zimbabwe" was written for the country then still known as Rhodesia, and the song was performed at Zimbabwe's independence celebration in 1980. In South Africa, the apartheid government partly censored the album.

The band on the record: Aston "Family Man" Barrett on bass, Carlton Barrett on drums, Junior Marvin and Al Anderson on guitar, Tyrone Downie and Earl "Wire" Lindo on keyboards, Alvin "Seeco" Patterson on percussion, and Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt of the I Threes on backing vocals.

Tracklist

Side A

So Much Trouble in the World

Zimbabwe

Top Rankin'

Babylon System

Survival

Side B

Africa Unite

One Drop

Ride Natty Ride

Ambush in the Night

Wake Up and Live

Complete the Collection

Twelve Bob Marley & The Wailers titles at Evergreen Vinyl, this one included: Catch A Fire, Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration, Exodus, Kaya, Babylon By Bus, Uprising, Confrontation, Legend, The Complete Island Recordings, Roots, Rock, Reggae: Live at the Hammersmith Odeon.

UPC: 602547276278
Label: Tuff Gong / Umgd
Release Date: 9.25.15
Format: Vinyl
