Seventeen of the remaining songs make up Mermaid Avenue Vol. III, first released by Nonesuch on April 21, 2012, as the third disc of Mermaid Avenue: The Complete Sessions. That box arrived on Record Store Day in the year of Woody Guthrie's centennial, with a DVD of Man in the Sand, the 1999 documentary about the project.

Guthrie's lyrics on this volume date from 1939 to 1953. Bragg wrote the music for ten of the seventeen, from "Bugeye Jim" at the start to "I'm Out to Get" at the end. Corey Harris wrote the music for "Gotta Work" and "Tea Bag Blues," and "The Jolly Banker" is the one song here set to a tune by Guthrie himself.

"When the Roses Bloom Again" began in 1901 as "I'll Be With You When the Roses Bloom Again," by Gus Edwards and Will D. Cobb. The version here has altered words and a new melody from Jeff Tweedy, who shares the writing credit with Cobb. Tweedy and Jay Bennett wrote the music for "Ain'ta Gonna Grieve."

Craft Recordings gives the 17 tracks a double LP of their own, on white eco-mix vinyl, in a limited edition sold through independent record stores.

Tracklist

Side A

Bugeye Jim

When the Roses Bloom Again

Gotta Work

My Thirty Thousand

Side B

Ought to Be Satisfied Now

Listening to the Wind That Blows

Go Down to the Water

Chain of Broken Hearts

Side C

Jailcell Blues

Don't You Marry

Give Me a Nail

The Jolly Banker

Union Prayer

Side D

Be Kind to the Boy on the Road

Ain'ta Gonna Grieve

Tea Bag Blues

I'm Out to Get

Complete the Collection

Four Billy Bragg & Wilco titles at Evergreen Vinyl, this one included: Mermaid Avenue, Mermaid Avenue Vol. II, Mermaid Avenue: The Complete Sessions.

UPC: 888072826175
Label: Craft Recordings
Release Date: 12.11.26
Format: Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0718/8801/1422/files/mermaid-avenue-vol3-white-eco-mix-packshot.png?v=1791410512
https://evergreenvinyl.com/products/billy-bragg-wilco-mermaid-avenue-vol-iii-indie-exclusive-white-eco-mix-vinyl
