The jacket carries the original painted cover, with its \"Newly discovered sessions from 1967 recorded at the Village Vanguard\" line, and the disc labels reproduce the Verve label copy of that first issue.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe music comes from two nights, August 17 and 18, 1967, at the Village Vanguard in New York, six years after the Riverside sets that became Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby. Evans led a trio with Eddie Gomez on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums, with Helen Keane producing. Despite the title, nothing here was recorded anywhere near the West Coast; the name comes from the opening track, the DeSylva, Meyer and Jolson song from the Broadway show Bombo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe tapes sat unissued for fifteen years. Verve released the set in 1982, two years after Evans' death, and it reached number 12 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart in 1983.
