Ben Nichols, the group's singer, and Rick Steff, its keyboard player, spent a single day at Matt Ross-Spang's Southern Grooves Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, recording acoustic versions of twenty Lucero songs.

The sessions were cut live in the studio, with grand piano and acoustic guitar the only instruments on the record. Ross-Spang, who engineered them, is a Grammy Award winner. Liberty & Lament's notes describe the selection as spanning the band's career, ranging from crowd favorites to more obscure rarities.

The album runs to two LPs, twenty songs sequenced five to a side across sides A through D, pressed on black vinyl. Liberty & Lament, Lucero's own label, issued it on January 24, 2025. The jacket carries two photographs from the session, Nichols at the microphone with an acoustic guitar and Steff at the piano.

Tracklist

Side A

In Lonesome Times (Unplugged)

That Much Further West (Unplugged)

When I Was Young (Unplugged)

Texas & Tennessee (Unplugged)

The Prayer (Unplugged)

Side B

Diamond State Heartbreak (Unplugged)

Sweet Little Thing (Unplugged)

Slow Dancing (Unplugged)

Among the Ghosts (Unplugged)

Buy a Little Time (Unplugged)

Side C

When You Decided to Leave (Unplugged)

Tell Me What It Takes (Unplugged)

Hate & Jealousy (Unplugged)

Hello Sadness (Unplugged)

Darby's Song (Unplugged)

Side D

It Gets the Worst at Night (Unplugged)

My Best Girl (Unplugged)

I Can't Stand to Leave You (Unplugged)

Nights Like These (Unplugged)

Tears Don't Matter Much (Unplugged)

UPC: 617308085877
Label: Liberty & Lament
Release Date: 1.24.25
Format: Vinyl
