It carries liner notes by the Timeless founders Wim and Ria Wigt, and the outer sleeve bears the sticker marking the Dutch label's fiftieth year.

This is the record that introduces the Blanchard–Harrison edition of the Messengers. Wynton Marsalis had recommended Terence Blanchard, then nineteen, and Donald Harrison, twenty-one, to Art Blakey; they arrive here alongside Bill Pierce on tenor, Johnny O'Neal on piano and Charles Fambrough on bass, with Blakey on drums. The band cut the whole album in a single session on May 20, 1982 at Fendal Sound Studios in Loenen aan de Vecht, with John Ramsay and Wim Wigt producing and Jan Kranendonk engineering.

Five of the seven pieces are written by members of the band — one each from Blanchard, Harrison, O'Neal, Pierce and Fambrough.
