The first disc carries the original ten-song album; the second adds nine demos and outtakes, also issued separately as a standalone EP called the afterparty. A red obi strip on the jacket lists all four sides.

The Party was Shauf's fifth studio album, released by ANTI- on May 20, 2016: a concept record set over a single night at a house party, each song a vignette about one of the guests. Shauf wrote, performed, engineered and produced it himself, recording at Studio One in Regina, Saskatchewan, with strings written and played by Colin Nealis. Noah Georgeson mixed it at Banner Mountain Studios in Los Angeles, and Philip Shaw Bova mastered it at Bova Lab in Ottawa.

The album was shortlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and holds a Metacritic score of 83, and Shauf received three nominations at the 2017 Juno Awards, among them Adult Alternative Album of the Year. In an essay written for the anniversary, he writes that the time "feels like a lost period for me" and that "The Party didn't happen because I knew what I was doing, it happened because I kept making mistakes." Of the newly released songs, he describes "losing" as "another early one, overly dramatic about alcohol and regret."

Tracklist

Disc 1 — Side A

The Magician

Early To The Party

Twist Your Ankle

Quite Like You

Begin Again

Disc 1 — Side B

The Worst In You

To You

Eyes Of Them All

Alexander All Alone

Martha Sways

Disc 2 — Side C

the magician (demo)

angela the traveller

begin again (v2)

eyes of them all (demo)

the interrupter

Disc 2 — Side D

losing

twist your ankle (demo)

my brother jeremy (demo)

martha sways (v2)

*** Indie Exclusive ***

UPC: 045778820108
Label: Anti
Release Date: 10.16.26
Format: Vinyl
