Matthew Lutthans cut the lacquers from the original analog tapes at The Mastering Lab at Blue Heaven Studios, keeping the chain all-analog (AAA), and the record is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl at QRP. It comes in a tip-on jacket reproducing the original Stax artwork, with the yellow Stax label on the disc and a blue Bluesville obi.

The obi carries liner notes by Grammy-winning producer Scott Billington alongside the full session personnel. Billington's note sets Albert apart among the three electric blues guitar Kings (Albert, B.B. and Freddie) as the one with the deepest tie to the Southern soul audience, and credits Stax for supplying the songs and players that kept his sound current. It also records that the title track reached No. 31 on Billboard's R&B chart in 1972 and entered the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.

Allen Jones and Henry Bush produced and arranged the sessions at Stax Studios in Memphis. The Bar-Kays and The Movement form the rhythm section, with Michael Toles on guitar, James Alexander on bass, Willie Hall on drums and Jones on organ and electric piano, and the Memphis Horns, Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love among them, fill out the arrangements. Issued as Stax STS-3009, it was King's seventh studio album and reached No. 11 on the R&B albums chart and No. 140 on the US albums chart.

Jerry Beach wrote the two-part title track, and "Breaking Up Somebody's Home," by Al Jackson Jr. and Timothy Matthews, followed as a single in October 1972. Side Two opens with "I'll Be Doggone," a Smokey Robinson, Pete Moore and Marvin Tarplin song, and includes King's own "Answer To The Laundromat Blues."

Tracklist

Side One

I'll Play The Blues For You (Parts I & II)

Little Brother (Make A Way)

Breaking Up Somebody's Home

High Cost Of Loving

Side Two

I'll Be Doggone

Answer To The Laundromat Blues

Don't Burn Down The Bridge (Cause You Might Wanna Come Back)

Angel Of Mercy

UPC: 888072760264
Label: Craft Recordings
Release Date: 6.12.26
Format: Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0718/8801/1422/files/Albert_King_Ill_Play_The_Blues_Pack_Shot_w_obi_LP_8f1173be-8337-4dd2-a8a0-ad2c068d0e37.png?v=1791395210
https://evergreenvinyl.com/products/albert-king-ill-play-the-blues-for-you-bluesville-acoustic-sounds-series
