It was recorded on November 6, 1960, at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, produced by Alfred Lion, and first issued in 1961. Hubbard had arrived in New York from Indianapolis in 1958 and spent 1958 and 1959 in Philly Joe Jones's group; Jones takes the drum chair here, with Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, McCoy Tyner on piano and Paul Chambers on bass.

Two of the six tunes are Kenny Dorham's: "Asiatic Raes," also known as "Lotus Blossom," and "Karioka." Mobley contributed "The Changing Scene" and "A Peck A Sec," Bill Smith wrote the ballad "I Wished I Knew," and the closer, "Blues For Brenda," is Hubbard's own. Blue Note's notes describe the date as high-energy hard bop, and AllMusic's Scott Yanow singled out Hubbard's solos for praise.

Hubbard later joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and appears on Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz and Eric Dolphy's Out To Lunch.

Tracklist

Side A

Asiatic Raes

The Changing Scene

Karioka

Side B

A Peck A Sec.

I Wished I Knew

Blues For Brenda

UPC: 602478069864
Label: Blue Note Records
Release Date: 7.17.26
Format: Vinyl

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0718/8801/1422/files/FreddieHubbard_GoinUp_1LP-ProductShot.png?v=1791171727
grant-green-street-of-dreams-blue-note-classic-vinyl-edition
Grant Green - Street of Dreams (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition)

Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition, 180g Black Vinyl

This single LP is part of Blue Note's Classic Vinyl series.
